This piece started from a small exercise that then gained momentum and by the end of it, I had a fully realized scene. A huge inspiration for this project was some of the souls games, notably Bloodborne and Demon Souls. There was a time in my life where I couldn't sit through 1 hour of those games but then they just clicked and I fell under their spell. I wanted to capture a feeling of allure and fear. Something familiar drawing you closer, mesmerizing you until the last second.

I created all of the assets in the scene using a combination of 3ds Max, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Zbrush and Unreal Engine. The plants and fireflies were borrowed from free marketplace assets.
